Vaginitis in the summer: How to protect yourself!

Κολπίτιδα το καλοκαίρι Πώς να προφυλαχτείς

Vaginitis is an extremely common infection of the female reproductive system caused by the excessive growth of microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, trichomonas) in the vagina.

As summer can increase the risk of vaginitis, it is important to take some precautions to protect yourself.

Here are some tips that can help you protect yourself from vaginitis and get the most out of your summer:

Proper hygiene:

Wash daily with mild soap. Avoid using perfumed soaps or solutions, as these can irritate the vagina and disturb the natural balance of bacteria, the vaginal microbiome.

Avoid tight, synthetic clothing:

Tight and synthetic clothes create the right conditions (heat, humidity) for the growth of microorganisms in the vagina. Prefer lighter, cotton clothes that allow the sensitive area to “breathe”.

Avoid spending time in wet clothes:

Moisture can create a wonderful environment for the growth of microorganisms. Try to change your bikini or swimsuit frequently, especially after swimming or sweating.

Adopt a healthy diet:

A healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables can boost your immune system and help prevent infections.

Use of tampons:

In the summer months, due to the heat and high humidity that occurs in the vagina on the difficult days of the month, sanitary products such as tampons can provide the right conditions for the growth of microorganisms, especially in women suffering from recurrent vaginitis.

Note that the above advice is general guidance and it is important to consult your gynaecologist for individual recommendations. If you experience frequent infections or any change in symptoms, it is important to seek medical attention.
